A writing retreat doesn’t work if there are too many
distractions…or not enough.
StoryStudio Chicago’s first annual Writer’s Retreat, held at the Lake Michigan Reunion & Retreat, was a perfect event. There were twelve of us, coming to write, to read and to talk about writing. The accommodations were just what we had in mind and as a group, we voted to come back again.
Lake Michigan R&R provided the right amount of privacy and common areas. Because we each had our own room and bathroom, there was always a place to retreat for some quiet time. Plus, most of the rooms had bathtub jets and several had fireplaces, making it a lovely respite at the end of the day.
The common areas were cozy and comfortable with plenty of room for us to spread out. We were there in March when the weather was sunny but cold and the fireplaces in both living rooms provided warmth and atmosphere…especially important after we stood outside around the backyard bonfire pretending it was summer!
One of the best aspects of the Lake Michigan R&R was that we had the run of the place. The innkeeper was there when we needed her, and we were on our own the rest of the weekend. The commercial grade kitchen and supplies were plenty and each evening after a communal dinner around the long oak dining table, we did the dishes together then retired to one of the living rooms or hung out to talk, perched on the kitchen stools with a view of the poolside deck.
As coordinator of StoryStudio Chicago’s Writer’s Retreat, I can highly recommend Lake Michigan Reunion & Retreat.

How many parents have the privilege to say that their children and grandchildren want to spend the weekend with them!
Then add to that, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins and friends! We stay at Lake Michigan Reunion & Retreat (formerly the Warren Woods Inn). For one weekend a year, it is our home! We have seen other places, but none compare to Warren Woods Inn. It’s cozy and warm and charming! Our weekend away at Warren Woods Inn has become part of our Christmas gift to our children.
Every year they ask for the same gift, over and over again! A true testament to family time together! We will be back next year, so please save our spot! Thanks for such a great staff! You’re the greatest!

Great Wedding Weekend
Hi Ted and Robin!
I wanted to shoot you an email to let you know that we really had a wonderful wedding weekend and stay at the Warren Woods Inn this past weekend. It really is a special place, and the timing of the Fall foliage couldn’t have been better! There are so many wonderful things about the Inn, and I know our guests had a great time and we all would like to come back sometime. I may reach out for future bookings!
Anyway, as I mentioned, we really did enjoy our stay there and were quite comfortable for the weekend. We appreciated the ability to put the tent up in the back and had a beautiful wedding there, and all three nights were able to enjoy the evening campfire. Everything we needed was available and I loved being able to take a hot bath in the soaker tub. In the end I couldn’t have asked for anything more and would love to make a return visit at some point for sure.
Thanks again and please keep in touch if you have any other questions about our stay there.
Last November, my friends and I rented the inn and the cottage and had a blast! We are hoping to be able to rent both again this year.
I hope all is well, and hope to do business with you again!
